Link Policy and Accessibility Statement

General Link Policy: The following seven criteria, recommended by the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC), are considered when selecting internet resources for inclusion at this site:

Authority: Who created the site and what are their credentials?

Affiliation: Who provided the information? Can I link to the homepage? Is the information biased by the provider affiliation?

Content: Is there content or is it an advertisement? Is the information objective? Is it helpful? Is it easy to follow or navigate?

Purpose: Is it a personal homepage, an advocacy site, a business/marketing site, a news site, or an informational site?

Audience: Who is this resource geared toward; teachers, students, etc? Is the information appropriate for its intended audience?

Currency: How old is the information? When was the page created or last updated?

Comparisons: How does the information compare to other electronic and print sources? Is it accurate and well written?

Student Links additionally follow guidelines suggested by the Children and Technology Committee of the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association:

The purpose and content of the Web site are clear, a source is clearly identified, and contact information is provided.

The content encourages exploration and thinking. It is appealing to, and suits the age level of, the children for whom it is designed.

The site is easy to access. It loads quickly, and essential information comes on the screen first. The information is accurate and updated regularly.

The site takes advantage of the possibilities of the Web-it does more than can be done with print. It contributes something unique or unusual.

Accessibility Statement: We strive to make these pages universally accessible, according to guidelines established by the Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking & Technology Program of Washington University (DO-IT). You will notice, for example, that we minimize the use of graphics and photos, and provide descriptions of them when they are included. Suggestions for increasing the accessibility of these pages are welcome.
