Lunarpages.com
Offers a free web hosting account to all
K-12 public schools in the U.S. Open to any district administrator, school principal or classroom teacher. As part of the program, Lunarpages will provide a FREE web builder, FREE domain name, FREE
unlimited phone and email support, unlimited email addresses and FTP
accounts, 500 MB storage, and 20 GB data transfer for each new account.
There is no restriction on the use of the account opened in conjunction
with this program, provided it is opened by a school official and is used
for educational purposes.Private schools, colleges, churches, day cares
and schools outside of the United States are not eligible to participate.
Unlike other free educational site hosts, where you're uploading a page
into the subdirectory of someone else's account (which many district filters
will block) at LunarPages, you are actually getting your own account.
If your site doesn't qualify for the free educational program, I highly
recommend their regular account (which is what I have.) Here's what you get for only $96 a year: (scroll down to "Free Web Hosting for Schools")

-Unlimited email accounts plus SpamAssassin
-FREE CoffeeCup Web Design Software including VisualSite Designer, CoffeeCup
HTML Editor, CoffeeCup Direct FTP, CoffeeCup Web Video Player.

List of links to many providers. Read carefully, as many of the "free"
offers have a catch. Also, be aware that many district filters will

- How to grab an image from the Web:
1. To download an image if you have a PC, move the mouse on top of the
image. Click the right mouse button. A menu will pop up, and then...
(If you have a Macintosh, move the mouse over the image you want. Click,
hold the mouse button and a menu will pop up, and then... )
2. On either type of computer, once you have the menu, choose the "Save
this Image as..." option, select a destination for the image, (such
as the "A" drive on your computer) give it a name (or leave the
name as it appears in the box), and click on "Save". You can
save the image anywhere on the hard drive of your computer or to a disk.
If you're grabbing images for your web page, you will want to place them
in that folder. And remember, you must also upload them to your web page
host.

- Recommended Books to Help You Design Usable Web Sites
Jared Spool. Web Site Usability: A Designer's Guide. Morgan Kaufmann,
1998. The authors conducted studies to determine how real people actually
use web sites, and what makes that use successful or frustrating. Their
guidelines are based on that research. This is a very readable book that
provides the basics. Read
more about it and Order at Amazon
Mark Pearrow. Web Site Usability Handbook. Charles River Media,
2000. This book builds upon the research of Spool, and is designed to be
used as a text book. But don't let that scare you off! It's highly readable
and makes an excellent self-study course. Read
