General Interest & Sports

American Legacy: The Magazine of African-American History and Culture. This is my Number 1 favorite magazine...even the advertising sections are informative! Articles are diverse and engaging, in-depth yet highly readable; in Fall 2005 alone they covered "The Highwaymen" (a group of self-taught Florida artists who created lush landscapes and sold them along the roadside), James Reese Europe, The Dance Theatre of Harlem, Charlotte Hawkins/Palmer Memorial Institute, the soldiers who build the Alaska Highway, "Top Ten Influential Books & Films in Black History"...among other things. I'm particularly delighted to see women equally represented in each issue. Celebrating their 10th year in 2005, planning to expand to 6 issues annually. Visit their website for more information.
